Recently Australian Immigration Department has released new updates for General Skilled Migration visa process. The major changes introduced in the recent updates indicate policy getting strict for international students and skilled workers. The changes have been introduced in 2-year study requirement, visa processing time, state nomination and occupational Ceiling policies.
Previously, graduate diplomas were eligible for 2-year study requirement in Australia but were not eligible for 485 Post Study Work Stream. These types of immigrants used to apply for 485 Graduate Work Stream through point test system. However, as per new updates, graduate diplomas are not eligible for 2-year Australian study requirement anymore.
Visa application processing time has been increased and now internationals have to wait longer for getting their application results. This might be the result of higher volume of applications received under General Skilled Migration category from last few years. Although processing time has been increased but allocation time has been decreased accordingly.
For state migration plans, requirements have been updated as per new released policies. However, no exact data has been released from the side of department yet but it is expected that time limit to work/study in Australia might have increased. All the states are about accept the new policies but NSW and NT have not introduced any changes in their state migration policies.
In terms of occupational ceiling policies, for some professions, points have been reduced as per data received from immigration department. New ceiling number ANZSCO 2621 introduced for Database and Systems Administrators and ICT Security Specialists. New updates have been good for the accountants with point reductions possibilities. However, to apply as per new point data, one will require an invitation but the processing time has been reduced for this category now.
