To boost immigration and meet its industry’s demands for skilled professionals; Australia has introduced a new immigration policy. It is aimed at filling vacant positions in various economic sectors and boost struggling businesses.
Being a commodity-driven market Australia exports products from agriculture and allied activities sector. Being a labour-intensive sector, Australia farm production was taking a hit due to the shortage of professionals & a recent drought. As a result, the Department of Home Affairs has formulated new immigration rules for applicants seeking both permanent and temporary immigration.
Besides agriculture, the new immigration rule will cover healthcare, sports among other fields to allow overseas workers to come and work in Australia. The interested companies can now sponsor foreign workers to live and engage in professional activities in Australia subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
An employer is now open to sponsoring an overseas worker for a period of maximum four years and a selected candidate can work and apply for permanent residency in designated areas earmarked in Australian provinces where businesses are hit. The new immigration policy would be applicable on new applicants only and existing nominations won’t get impacted.
Under new immigration policy, the rules are lenient for foreign workers and relaxation has been allowed in English proficiency and work experience requirements. While 35 new occupations have been added to the list of medium and long-term strategic skills list, 18 occupations have been added in the regional occupation list and 27 occupations have been removed from short-term skills shortage list.
